About Dr Sello Mashamaite
Dr Sello Mashamaite is a General practitioner with special interest in HIV and TB management. He qualified as a medical doctor with MBChB from University of Natal in 1993.
He is passionate about HIV and TB care and gained experience in this field since 1998. He was involved in the initial national ARV rollout in 2004 at Masakhane Clinic in Tembisa Hospital and he was a sub-investigator in HIV and TB research trials at this site through Aurum Institute.
Through Right to Care (RtC) he was a medical manager of one of the largest HIV and TB clinics in South Africa at Thembalethu Clinic in Helen Joseph hospital. Subsequently, he was a medical advisor for RtC in the Tshwane district health department supporting hospitals and clinics in HIV and TB services. In this capacity, he managed MDR TB patients in Tshwane District Hospital.
During this period he was a member of the national HIV Task Team Expert Working Group and he is currently a member of the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society.
He obtained a Master in Public Health degree from Unisa and a Diploma in HIV Management through Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
He has attended HIV conferences in Cameroon, Malawi and Rwanda and attended the 21st International HIV conference in Durban in 2016.
He appeared on the SABC TV programme, Shift on two occasions and was a guest of Chriselda Dudumashe on Radio Metro.
He has a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate and has participated in several HIV research studies.
He is a board member of Arebaokeng Hospice in Tembisa and is a founder and director of Khutša Fa Foundation, which supports students in the rural area of Brilliant Village in Senwabarwana, Limpopo.
He is a medical advisor to Positive Magazine and regularly presents at their conferences.
